Diversion in Pasig on October 3 for the inauguration of the Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines — Motorists in the city of Pasig are urged to redirect to Lanuza Avenue as parts of Meralco Avenue will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to noon Monday for the Metro Manila Subway Groundbreaking Ceremony.

The City of Pasig Public Information Office has stated that Meralco Avenue (northbound), Flyover (Meralco Avenue – northbound), and Service Road (Meralco Avenue – northbound) will not be available. Drivers are encouraged to take the following routes:

From Meralco Avenue (northbound) towards EDSA via Ortigas Avenue:

  • Take Julia Vargas Avenue, left to Lanuza Avenue, left to Ortigas Avenue to the destination
  • Take SM Megamall road to destination

From Meralco Avenue (northbound) towards Rizal via Ortigas Avenue:

  • Take Julia Vargas Avenue, left to Lanuza Avenue, left to Ortigas Avenue to the destination

From Meralco Avenue (northbound) towards Rizal via Ortigas Avenue:

  • Take Lanuza Avenue to destination

Beginning at 9 p.m. on October 3, the northern and southern portions of Meralco Avenue will be closed until 2028 to make way for construction of the Metro Manila subway project. This includes the front portion of Capitol Commons to the corner of Shaw Boulevard.

The metro will be the country’s first underground mass transit system, serving 370,000 people a day once operational. It will stretch 33 kilometers from the city of Valenzuela to Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, crossing three central business districts.

The 488 billion peso project is funded by the Japanese government through a Tokyu-Tobishima-Megawide joint venture.
