The $ 52.5 million The system will serve as a fun and fast way to move convention attendees across more than 200 acres of campus, all 40 feet underground in all-electric Tesla vehicles. Plans have been announced to develop an extensive system throughout the resort corridor, known as the Vegas Loop, which will ease traffic congestion and provide a new transportation option for visitors from as far north as the north. Las Vegas downtown, throughout the Strip and as far south as Allegiant Stadium.
“We are delighted to have partnered with Elon’s company to offer this transport ‘first’ to our valued convention customers,” said Steve hill, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of LVCVA. “The extended Loop system, once developed, will be a game-changer and be a new must-see attraction for our visitors. “
The company constructed two 0.8-mile one-way vehicle tunnels and three passenger stations to connect the existing convention center campus to the 1.4 million square foot West Hall expansion. The system will allow up to 4,400 convention attendees per hour to traverse the sprawling campus in just under two minutes, free of charge. On foot, the walk would take about 25 minutes. Instead, passengers are transported in all-electric Tesla vehicles to their destinations. The vehicles have a capacity of 150 mph but will travel at 35-40 mph due to the short distance of the tunnels. The system will initially be staffed with drivers with the intention of operating them autonomously in the future.
“We are grateful to LVCVA and all local stakeholders for giving us the opportunity to build our first commercial project in one of the most dynamic destinations in the world,” said Steve davis, President, The Boring Company. “We are proud to have developed and delivered an exciting transport solution to Las Vegas Congress Palace.”
The creation of the underground transportation system arose out of Musk’s desire to solve the traffic jam problem. As a result, the company is focused on building low-cost, quick-to-build underground transportation systems to reduce traffic congestion. Going underground has several advantages, as the tunnels are structurally safe, weatherproof, noise-free, and can accommodate increasing capacity by easily adding multiple levels.
LVCVA went from board approval to excavating the two tunnels in less than a year, and fully developing the system in a year and a half, proving that Las Vegas embrace new ideas and execute them quickly. The tunnels are 13.5 feet in outside diameter and 12 feet in inside diameter. The Loop system includes a command center to monitor the system to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.
