Hanoi approves an underground construction space project

According to the plan which will be made by 2030 and with a vision by 2050, the urban space will extend over 756 square kilometers through 20 districts of Ba Dinh, Bac Tu Liem, Cau Giay, Dan Phuong, Dong Anh, Dong Da, Gia Lam, Ha Dong, Hai Ba Trung, Hoai Duc, Hoan Kiem, Hoang Mai, Me Linh, Nam Tu Liem, Tay Ho, Thanh Oai, Thanh Tri, Thanh Xuan and Thuong Tin.

The space will have its deepest part at 30 meters underground to have a traffic system, technical and electric infrastructure, shopping centers, services, supermarkets, entertainment, warehouses and parking lots.

It will be divided into three layers at different depths to fulfill different functions.

The “shallow layer” at a maximum depth of five meters will be used to build underground technical infrastructure such as basement entries and pedestrian tunnels.

The “average layer” at 5-15 meters deep is intended for public works and parking areas. The deepest layer at 15-30 meters underground will be intended for transport systems, including the metro.

The limited areas for underground construction are the old district of Hanoi, the area outside the banks of the Red River and its tributary, the Duong River, as there is a risk of affecting the safety of the dikes and the capacity flood drainage.

The restriction also applies to nearby areas and around places classified as special national relics such as the imperial citadel of Thang Long, the relic site of President Ho Chi Minh behind the presidential palace, the Temple of Literature, the Citadel of Co Loa, the temple Hai Ba Trung, the Sword Lake, Temple Ngoc Son and areas designated for national defense and security.

According to the Hanoi People’s Committee, the general planning of the underground construction space must meet the requirements of “the management by the state of the construction and the use of the work to connect and synchronize the underground construction space in the region”.

“This is the basis for building a database in the urban underground construction space, making detailed planning of the underground construction space for urban areas as well as carrying out investment projects in underground construction in the Central urban area to work on the construction of a civilized and modern capital with sustainable urban development. Development.

This general development decision takes effect from March 15, he specifies.
