SNC-Lavalin appointed to provide digital map of UK-wide underground utilities

(TSX: SNC), a fully integrated professional services and project management firm with offices around the world, has been appointed by the UK Government’s Geospatial Commission to help create a digital map of underground pipes and cables that will revolutionize construction and development across the world. the country. SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins company, together with UK mapping agency Ordnance Survey and global geospatial data management leaders 1Spatial, will execute the build phase of the project to create a groundbreaking national geospatial platform to display all data on underground assets, helping to tackle the £2.4bn of value lost to the economy each year due to accidental utility strikes.

The National Register of Underground Assets is part of the government’s efforts to build back better and greener and accelerate the delivery of housing and infrastructure projects from design to construction. Fast and secure access to data will enable utility companies and local authorities to save time and money, improve construction and development efficiency, reduce disruption and improve worker safety.
